The School Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) is a five-year programme in partnership with Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS) in Melaka. It is open to all Malaysian secondary school students who are looking to develop their critical skills and command of leadership competencies.

Who are we looking for?

Students with minimum 4As 2Bs in Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR)*

Students with outstanding achievements in extracurricular activities

Priority will be given to applications from low-income and suburban families.

*To apply, students must have at least 6As or 5As 1B or 4As 2Bs (core subjects: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and Science) in the recent UPSR trial examinations. Not applicable to employees of Axiata Group of Companies

What is the School Leadership Development Programme?
The School Leadership Development Programme is a five-year leadership development platform that aims to nurture, mould, and advance Malaysian secondary school students to become the CEOs of tomorrow.
What sets the School Leadership Development Programme apart from other leadership programmes is its primary focus on developing the CEOs of tomorrow. It is our aim to nurture top performing students that will one day helm leadership positions in organisations and businesses of this country; individuals who are well-versed in matters of communication, creativity, business acumen, ethics, and leadership skills. Furthermore, the programme offers constant and consistent contact hours throughout the five years through its various modules (experiential workshops, community projects, online learning, personal reflection, coaching, and mentoring).
Axiata believes that the five years spent at secondary school are among the most crucial years of a young individual’s life. It is during these formative years that they will learn the values and habits that will eventually form behavioural guidelines for their later years.

Under this programme, we have the AYTP curriculum that focuses on building the essential values, attitudes, and competencies; providing a learning experience like no other. One that will equip young Malaysians with both personal and leadership skills needed to be the CEOs of tomorrow.
No, there will not be any fees borne by the participants. The programme is fully funded for the students of Kolej Yayasan Saad.
No, participants will not be given any allowances throughout the duration of the programme. However, the expenses incurred throughout the programme will be borne by Axiata Young Talent Programme.
Only scholars of Axiata Young Talent Programme will be required to sign a contract between the foundation and himself/herself. The contract is to ensure scholars attend the programme in full and adhere to all other codes of conduct set by Axiata Young Talent Programme as they complete the School Leadership Development Programme.
No, participants will not be bonded to work for Axiata Group Berhad after the completion of the programme. Participants will however be invited to join the Axiata Alumni Association.
Who is eligible to apply for scholarship for the School Leadership Development Programme?
Applications are open to all Malaysian citizens and permanent residents who are Year 6 primary school students.
Scholarships for the programme are awarded on either a full or partial basis, and is subject to eligibility and household income. Priority will be given to students from low-income households and families from rural areas.
Applicants must display the following:
  • Applicants must achieve at least 6As or 5As 1B or 4As 2Bs (Core Subjects: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and Science) in the recent Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) trial examinations.
  • Applicants must display active involvement in extracurricular activities, and be proficient in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in other languages would be a plus.
There are four stages to the application process for the School Leadership Development Programme:
  • Online Application – To be administered by Axiata Young Talent Programme
  • Entrance test – To be administered by Kolej Yayasan Saad and shortlisted by Axiata Young Talent Programme
  • Residential based selection – To be administered by Kolej Yayasan Saad and shortlisted by Axiata Young Talent Programme
  • Scholarship offer – Final offering is within the discretion of Axiata Young Talent Programme

Applicants are required to fill up the form at http://admission.kysm.edu.my/ It is crucial that the applicant fill up each section of the form completely and accurately.
Shortlisted applicants will be informed of their placement offer no later than December each year.
Axiata Young Talent Programme is looking to offer no more than 30 scholarships per cohort.
What would the curriculum of the School Leadership Development Programme encompass?
The curriculum of the School Leadership Development Programme encompasses experiential workshops, community projects, online learning, personal reflection, coaching, and mentoring.
The School Leadership Development Programme is a weekend programme where participants meet up 5-6 times a year for experiential workshops and community projects. There will also be online learning, coaching, and mentoring in between.
Yes, it is compulsory to attend all the modules of the School Leadership Development Programme – the programme has been absorbed by Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS) as part of its extracurricular syllabus. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.
Attendance is compulsory for each and every programme of the School Leadership Development Programme. Exceptions will only be made for health reasons or extenuating circumstances, as evidenced by medical reports or their equivalent.
